Maya Mountain Lodge strives to be an eco-friendly tourism model. Spiritual and permaculture principles guide us towards a sustainable relationship with our planet and towards ecological balance between the surrounding rain forest and the local community of San Ignacio, Belize.

ECO-FRIENDLY EFFORTS THAT AFFECT TOURISTS:
-Biodegradable packaging for take-out & paper cups
-Zero use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers
-Conservation of over 70% of the grounds as preserved rainforest habitat with walking trails
-Deluxe thatch cottages have sustainably grown Bay Leaf Palm roofing, a traditional natural material
-Regenerative farming style and organic garden practices
ECOTOURISM IN ACTION THROUGH SOCIAL AWARENESS:
-Catering to a wide variety of dietary needs: Standard & Special (Vegetarian, Gluten Free, etc)
-Belizean youth program teaching kids about gardens, tasting local teas, medicines and home remedies
-We train staff in ecological and sustainability principles including the health benefits of using non-toxic substances
-Belizean tour guides lead guests towards eco-friendly behavior
-Teaching healthy eating, nutrition & wellness programs with local health departments and organizations
BELIZEAN CULTURAL CELEBRATION NIGHTS:
We help preserve culture by celebrating the natural diversity of Belize, hosting regular cultural activities:
-Come celebrate Garifuna drumming and dancing
-Explore the vast reaches of the ancient Mayan empire's temples, cave systems, and learn to make stone-ground chocolate
-Taste the Mestizo culture with Fiesta De Maize
-Discover the diversity of our local community's Lebanese and Asian population with Kebab's and Pad Thai
GUEST EDUCATION ABOUT ECOTOURISM AND CONSERVATION:
-All Belizean tour guides are trained with eco-friendly ecological and sustainability principles
-Guided tropical flora walks and Monday medicinal plant class
-Local plant identification signs for flora and fauna throughout the property and gardens
-We encourage guests to interact with our staff and join local community service projects
